The Problem
One engine had been out of service for several years after a piston had scored one of the bores.
The other engine on site had over 20,000 hours on it without overhaul. The electricity supply to the island was unstable dependant on weather conditions hence the high standby hours. Rather than replace the engines and switchgear at an enormous cost being a remote island (Fetlar), both sets were fully reconditioned, and load tested onsite.
The Process
We fully stripped the engine down onsite for inspection before any work was started. All checks were within spec of manufacturers guidelines. We had gone to the islands fully prepared to rebuild both sets, taking with us new cylinder liners, cylinder heads, engine threaded studs, Pistons, rings, fuel pumps, injectors, big ends, starter motors, flexible hoses, full gasket kits, oil, filters and paint.
The Results
We worked long days to get this package back up to standard and load bank tested each engine for 8 hours up to 110% load to prove full reliability for the customer. Our rebuilds are always painted with original paint on completion for that authentic touch.
