The Problem
Coolant was found in the sump upon the Blackstones annual service along with cylinder head gasket, piston 8 and suspected liner seal failure, rather than replace at huge cost a full rebuild was completed. With this standby set having low hours of around 500 it was the best solution for cost as all parts are still readily available, and these machines are ultra reliable work horses from the 1970’s.

The Process
The Blackstone was fully stripped down and upon inspection all liners were within spec without marks, however it required three new piston crowns, one new conrod, piston rings, big end bearings, recondition of the cylinder heads, fuel pumps, injectors reconditioned and set up, three new cylinder head temp gauges and a full gasket set.
The generator was completely rebuilt and load tested for 8 hours via a load bank direct to alternator upto 110%. Fuel pumps were set up to within 10 degree C of each other and the set was painted in its original colour to restore it back to looking new.
